so THIS is seriously my final post on this blog! as many of you know, i've been undergoing a photography makeover. if you didn't read my post about a year ago, here, take a look to better understand. throughout this past year, i have been working my way towards 'the switch'... basically, just finishing up digital weddings/portraits i've booked this past year, learning a new style of art, and now, for the first time, i am proud to say that i am a photographer shooting exclusively film. i've been working on this for a while now, and i feel like this is who i am as an artist; the truest expression of the person that i am. i'm beyond thrilled to share with you my new blog, which will represent the "new" heather hester photography, the film photographer (and woops..it's a month later than i had announced, but people get busy!).

despite the rainy weather we had coming our way, mallory and will made such beautiful photos together. and literally, right as we wrapped up the shoot, it started raining...so we finished just in time!
i get so giddy when i'm around couples who are this cute and fun. i've known mallory for a while (we went to church together back in the day) and it's always so exciting to see when they've "met their match". and it's even better when you get to catch up with them and shoot their wedding;)

as i mentioned in a previous post (their engagement's) andrew and nathan are childhood friends who have stayed in touch throughout the years. when these two are together, you might as well just sit back and enjoy the show!
erin and nathan's day started in a beautiful church, then ended in a snazzy little place in birmingham called the matt jones gallery. it definitely has a hip and cool vibe to it, so the day ended just perfectly at this little venue. here are a few selects from the day!

here are our cute little friends meghan and kyle-some of our good friends from back in college. they are so sweet and awesome together! i loved every minute of photographing their engagements. and after seeing their tandem bike, andrew and i are itching to have one;)

when we were finished up with pictures, we grabbed a bite to eat and reminisced on old prank stories. we had such a good time catching up with some old friends. we can't wait for their wedding!

okay, let's be honest with ourselves... did you look this great as a senior in high school? i know for a fact i did NOT. alright, i needed to get that out there, since we were all thinking it! olivia is such a lovely girl. and actually, this is a special post because she flew all the way from new mexico to have her senior portraits taken. well, just kidding about that last sentence...olivia came to alabama to visit her family here and had these taken during her stay;)

i am very fond of her family, considering my best friend, elise, is a part of it! and i could be around olivia all day. she has such a genuine spirit and the happiest little smile. i'm excited to see what's in olivia's future, because i know she will impress a lot of people with her charming personality!

this was such a great wedding to be a part of. we felt privileged to be there capturing this classy little wedding. robin and jerad made andrew and i feel so comfortable throughout the day, and we had too much fun being around their family and friends.

as promised, here is part two of this awesome duo. i couldn't wait to share this part of the session {it's one of my favorite shoots yet!}. i just love how relaxed and sweet they are together on the river. we ended the day here, and boy was it nice to cool off a little after being in the scorching heat!

i am in love with this entire shoot and this amazing little pair! brooke and grant have been married for 5 years, and wanted photos made to celebrate. i was so excited to work with brooke. not only are her and her hubs super adorable, but i follow her sweet little blog and just knew we would hit it off. it felt so natural hanging with these two that we even hung out after we finished the session! it was so great connecting with them and finding out how similar our interests were. i felt like i kept finding myself saying, "o my gosh, me too!" or "wow, that sounds just like something andrew would do".

i look forward to hanging out with them in the near future;)

so, i have known tyne since we were running around with crayons in our hands and learning how to count. yep, you guessed it! we go all the way back to the kindergarden years. i am so happy for tyne. she has truly met her perfect match and i can't wait to be there for their big day with a camera in my hand!

she is getting married on a beautiful piece of farm land, so we found it fitting to include a little farm life in the photos. o, and tyne has to be one of the most photogenic people i've ever met. enjoy!

where do i even begin, haha? anyone who knows garrett knows that he is a one-of-a-kind cool guy. he and i go way back to our college years. okay, so it wasn't that long ago, but it sure feels like it! garrett has been a good friend of ours for a while now, and after he proposed to the so very beautiful katie leigh, he contacted me for pictures. i felt like i was photographing jcrew models...
a.) because that is garretts favorite place ever and b.) um hello, LOOK at them!

i thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with this couple. these two have such great chemistry that it made my job pretty easy! the weather was a little up and down, going from warm and sunny to freezing cold wind and stormy skies. it made for some diversity for sure! rachel and jordan stuck it out and we had such a fun time getting to know each other. this is one of my favorite things about being a photographer...the "get to know you process". i love meeting awesome people!

what happens in vegas...

what happens in vegas doesn't always have to stay in vegas..i've got nothing to hide! i made a memorable trip last week with my photog pal, emma. we attended a photographers convention in las vegas which completely blew our little minds. we brought back more info than we could have imagined. emma and i were finally able to spend an entire week together chatting non-stop about photography. of course we also spent our time having fun touring the city, photographing one another, and challenging ourselves to snap photos of willing passerby's on the street. and yes, we also tried our luck with the vegas slot machines...and we each lost about $10. we thought we would be leaving vegas with a grand prize bmw, but we quickly realized we weren't cut out for the gambling world. oh well, maybe next year!

Snow Day!

My hubby and I decided to go on a day trip to Franklin, TN to celebrate Valentines Day. Why Franklin and not Nashville you might ask? Well, it is about 20-30 minutes away from Nashville, and we wanted to see what it was all about. We love the city of Nashville, but would like to find a quaint little town right outside of the city to settle in one day. We have always heard wonderful things about Franklin. Little did we know, icy roads and snow were visiting Franklin as well, so we ended up getting snowed in. We didn't mind it though...we got a great deal on a swanky little place to rest our heads for the night. This was the best Valentines ever! Here are just a few happy times we caught on camera. We actually had planned to do a little photo shoot of the 2 of us. I had my tripod and everything. However, we were pretty unprepared for the frigid cold. We only lasted outside about 5 minutes, haha. Next time we'll have our clothing layers ready to go! Enjoy. xoxo

The Wiley Family

I love the Wiley family! We met them at our wonderful church, Capstone, and I am so happy we did. Jeni wanted a few pictures with the family while pregnant with "puddin" (the baby's nickname), so we went out and took a few shots of them in action. Ella Grace, the little one you'll see running around, made this shoot a blast. From the pillow fights to throwing up her famous "EW" hand sign, she really put on a show in front of the camera!

Jeni is having a sweet little girl in exactly a week. Keep her in your thoughts and prayers:)

My Big Announcement for 2010!

For the past few months, we've been doing some serious soul-searching...

I have really been digging deep to find out who I truly am as a photographer. I love taking pictures for a living, and I love interacting with lovely people, but something seemed to be missing. From the start of heatherHphotography, I have been shooting digital pictures - but as my style had evolved, I've discovered a growing love for film. For the past few months we've been planning, researching, and dreaming, and we finally think we're ready...! So, without furtheradieu, here's the big announcement: we are converting heatherHphotography to 100% film by October 2010.

Well, the cat is now out of the bag. I have really kept this a secret for a long while now, but things are finally falling into place, so I felt it appropriate to share with my readers. I want you to follow me during this exciting transition. I am currently building a portfolio for my new blog, full of film pictures. I can't begin to tell you how anxious and nervous I have been to make this announcement. I actually have butterflies in my stomach (but I guess that's a good thing)! I love everything about film...the simplicity, the vintage and timeless feel, and all of the organic qualities it possesses. I am such a simple person, loving a good natural photo; I'm not too big on trends and editing in photoshop. I really think I am made for the timeless look of film. It is who I truly have become as a photographer and I finally feel ready to make this change! I am already booking weddings where I am shooting 100% film, so this is really starting to take effect and i couldn't be happier! So, heatherHphotography followers...get ready because by October 2010, I will be 100% film. There won't be a digital thing about me...except for maybe my imac and my cellphone, lol;)

Well, after I took Lauren's photos, Elise and I decided to stick around and take a few shots just for fun. I thought this field was so beautiful and I just had to do one more shoot out there before it all withered away. These were actually taken a long time ago, but I have waited until now to post these because I had to let Elise look through them and allow me to put them up..haha! Elise has been my best friend since high school, can you believe it?!. She's wonderful and beautiful and I just love being around her. Enjoy looking at these photos of my gorgeous friend!

Welcome 2010!!

Sooo...I have definitely been MIA for a few weeks. And I don't really like when people make excuses for being busy, but I'm about to make some, lol. I think this past month or so has been the busiest I have ever been. It's always a good thing to be busy, but I never want to get too busy where I can't think straight. So, my apologies on a blog post long overdue. This blog post, however, is one to set the new year off to a good start. Ironically, one of my resolutions is to blog weekly. So, no matter what I am posting, there will be at least one a week! So, in 2010, I resolve the following:

❉ to read a book a month...off to a good start so far...but we'll see!
❉ blog weekly, as mentioned above
❉ stick to the budget plan that Andrew made for 2010
❉ learn to knit (I bought a roll of yarn a few weeks ago, I made a few hair pieces) Now, off to bigger and better things...a scarf, maybe a blanket, who knows?
❉ take a quilting class
❉ eat my food pyramid servings of fruits and veggies everyday
❉ paint more (I used to paint a lot, just for me, and it was so relaxing...I need that back in my life again)
❉ exercise 3 to 4 times a week (everyone who knows me, is probably laughing at this one, thinking, "yeah right!! when pigs fly!" but you wait and see...2010 I'm going to be an exercising machine)
❉ floss daily
❉ better my work flow/daily routine (stick to the daily schedule I made out)
❉ take my polaroid everywhere I go (one day I want a room FILLED with every little thing I've captured on a polaroid)
❉ print out pictures and actually put them in the empty frames scattered around my house...sad, I know!
❉ triple my blog traffic coming through...hey, if you read the blog, don't be afraid to leave a comment! I love me some blog pals!
❉ start a twitter account...as badly as I hate it, I really need to do this for my business (ugh..I just don't want people following me around all day! But, it's 2010, so I need to get with it!)
❉ have more patience. I am really learning that little by little
❉ Do some sort of "give away" on the blog (not sure yet, still working on it)
❉ I have a HUGE goal set for October 2010. However, it is a surprise and I can't let the cat out of the bag just yet. But, one hint is that it is going to change the look of my business (for the better)! I can't wait :)
❉ Finally, one of the biggest goals I need to stick to for 2010...And this is a big one blog readers....Here it is: I need to focus on the things I have and make them better instead of wishing I had things that are completely out of my hands. In other words, I need to be proud of even the smallest things in my life, then allow things to fall into it's right place! This is a big struggle for me. I am always wanting and wishing and dreaming up things that are most of the time impossible (causing me to become impatient and sometimes temperamental, lol...sorry Andrew)
Now, I'm not saying I need to stop dreaming, because dreaming is what has gotten me this far. But I just need to make sure I make a plan with my hopes and dreams and learn to be patient with them. Because, often times, I think up something I REALLY want to do and I am quickly dissapointed when it doesn't go the way I dreamt. So, I am learning to take my ideas and plan them out instead of trying to rush straight into things. So, 2010...here's to you and dreaming BIG with a plan and a purpose!

I had so much fun watching this couple interact with one another. Not only do I love these pictures, I LOVE this couple! They made me feel like we had been friends for years. They were up for all of my crazy ideas, and I really had a great time getting to know them. Laura Beth loves to paint and Jay loves the outdoors (he knows every type of plant life out there...seriously!) so it was great capturing that in their photos. You know when you're watching a "feel good" movie/show and you catch yourself (or a friend catches you) smiling all dreamlike at the TV screen? Well, that's how I felt driving home from this engagement shoot. It put me in the best mood. I had so much fun with them and couldn't get over how lovely they were to be around. I had a great time photographing these two. It was one of the most beautiful days yet! They brought along their little dog, "Miller" to join in on the fun. Also...while we were taking pictures, the SWAT team was practicing right near us. I wish I would have asked them to take a picture or two...maybe next time:)

Boy was this engagement session funny (and interesting, haha)! We were quickly running out of daylight, so I got in "serious mode" (which if you know me, doesn't happen much) and I was all..."Okay, stand here, do this, turn here, look that way, hug, kiss, love each other...but do it quick!" They were so easy going and we just laughed our way through it. Since we had a limited amount of time for outside pictures, I decided to take them inside a cute little restaurant where they could order a bottle of wine and I would just capture them in a sweet little intimate setting. It was definitely different from what I usually do, but it was fun trying something new. I actually loved how they turned out. The wine, the candlelight and soft grainy feel to the photos made me smile. So, I hope you enjoy this cute couple as much as I did!

Here is part one of this cute little family. They are good friends of mine, and I was so thrilled to take pictures with their newest addition, Samuel Harris Tuggle. He is so sweet and cuddly and I just adore these pictures. We did a second photo session in their little home (those will be posted soon). Jenna & Hooter: Wedding Day

Jenna and Hooter were married in their home town of Chatom, AL on a golf course right near their home. You may recognize them from their sunflower engagement pictures I took a while back. Joy & Jeremy: Wedding Day!

What a fun day this was! Joy and Jeremy are 2 madly in love individuals. They had a very intimate "front yard" ceremony at Joy's beautiful home on the lake. I loved the feel of this wedding...just the people closest to you witnessing your most important moment. With the help of my wonderful hubby and good friend Emma, it wasn't hard capturing great pictures of this couple. They were creating wonderful poses left and right without even knowing it. Caitlin & Rob: Engagements!

Wow...this couple was the coolest! We had so much fun (even if I did step in FIVE ant beds!!). I love everything about this shoot...the laughter, the lovely couple, the lighting, and of course the balloons! Caitlin and Rob were so easy going and a blast to be around. After I finished photographing this wonderful couple, I rode home thinking about how much I love what I do. I feel like I say this a lot on the blog, but I truly mean it. My 1 Year Anniversary!

It has been the most romantic, exciting year of my life! Exactly one year ago, I married the most loving and thoughtful man. So,today we celebrate our 1 HECK-of-a-year anniversary by heading off to the lake for a few days of pure bliss! As I sit back and reminisce this past year, it just couldn't have been any better...SERIOUSlY, because he is awesome and dreamy...yes, very dreamy;) I am thrilled to be able to grow very old with a man who thinks I am perfect when I am ABSOLUTELY not. It doesn't get much greater than him. So this blog post goes out to my dearest husband to congratulate him for winning the "HUSBAND OF THE YEAR" award! So, Congratulations Andrew...you are simply amazing in every way!!

Andrew and I had a great time photographing Jessica and Jake's wedding! They are just a super sweet couple, and oh so in love.
I met Jessica for the first time the day of her wedding. She was so laid back, yet excited, which I think is awesome. I had so many pictures planned to take outside, but the rain on this day kept us inside. But leave it to Jessica and Jake, being so great to work with and all :) to make beautiful pictures nevertheless! Enjoy!

I've been so excited to post these! I actually took these a couple of weeks ago (yeah, I know, I'm a little backed up), and I'm so glad because the locations we went to are all chopped down and torn apart now. If there is anything I've learned about being a photographer it's that once you find a location, you have to do pictures there immediately (especially in Tuscaloosa..where everything is constantly changing).

Anyways, enough of my rambling...this is the beautiful Sarah Melton! Sarah is moving to Atlanta with high hopes of pursuing her dream in filmmaking. She contacted me about doing some photos that were a little more interesting than typical head shots for publicity stuff. Sarah, I wish you the best in your career journey. But I must say, I think you should model for Anthropologie. What do you think? ;)

Jenna & Hooter: Engagements!

This post just makes me happy:) Sunflowers make me happy, pretty colors make me happy, people in love make me happy, and having fun while doing my job makes me the happiest! I was so excited when I found out about this sunflower field. There was no doubt I was doing pictures there. Turns out, Jenna is using sunflowers in her wedding, so I couldn't wait to take her there. Megan & Daniel: Wedding!

Megan and Daniel were married at Burritt on the Mountain. It is a beautiful place overlooking the city of Huntsville and the feel of the wedding was so romantic. The reception was set up to be like a "backyard" wedding and it was definitely that. Kids were running around chasing the dog, picnic tables were set up and mosquitos were biting like crazy. I had such a great time photographing their wedding. Here's a few shots from their special day...

It was such a great day! I LOVED working with this couple! Melissa and Jonathan are everything I love to shoot...fun, head over hills in love, willing to do anything, and AWESOME posers! We had so much fun at their engagement session, so I knew it would be even better on their wedding day. Then, meeting each of their families made it even better. They made Andrew and I feel so welcome and we felt so blessed to be a part of their special day. Congrats to the lovely couple! I wish you the best as you begin your new lives together:)
